MACCLENNY, Fla. – The Baker County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that left a 14-year-old and a 19-year-old injured on Thursday night.
The shooting happened in the area of South Boulevard and Ninth Street in Macclenny.
The 14-year-old was treated and released from the hospital, and the 19-year-old is still in critical condition.
BCSO said it isn’t calling anyone a suspect because they are still trying to determine what happened, but investigators have learned that shortly before the shooting, one of the teens was assaulted and robbed, and a handgun was stolen from him.
Detectives have identified and arrested a 22-year-old man in the robbery. He was at the scene during the shooting, but has not been identified as one of the shooters, deputies said.
Detectives have identified the individuals who shot the victims and continue to collect evidence and statements from them and witnesses to determine what led to the shooting.
The investigation remains active and fluid.
One person News4JAX spoke to said he’s not sure if he still wants to live in the area after his house was hit by a bullet. And his home wasn’t the only one hit.
“It was traumatizing,” said the man who didn’t want to be identified. “The bullet grazed by my face.”
It’s a sentiment a woman who only wants to be identified as “Willy” has as well, saying this is not how the neighborhood used to be.
“We don’t do no shooting. It’s a code. We got old people. They’ve been shooting about weeks now. Got my grandma ducking and dodging, doing her Lil’ Kim. No, it’s too much,” she said.
And neither person says they knew the two who were shot, saying they’d only seen them before.
Investigators said they believe there were three shooters.
