DeSantis commends Trump’s ‘decisiveness’ on Iran strikes, says he’ll continue flights to return Americans from Israel

CLEARWATER, Fla. – Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis spoke on Monday about President Donald Trump’s decision to strike three facilities in Iran over the weekend amid the ongoing conflict with Israel.

During a news conference in Clearwater, DeSantis said Trump’s posture on Iran is correct, adding that it “cannot have a nuclear weapon.” He also said that “no country has been more hostile” to the U.S. since 1979 than Iran.

“I think President Trump showed decisiveness to be able to act when he did. Now people say, ‘Well, what are they going to do to respond?’ And they may, right? I don’t think they can respond effectively, conventionally, against U.S. forces. They just don’t have the ability,” DeSantis said.

DeSantis also said he will continue operations to bring back Americans who are caught in the middle of the conflict in Israel.

On Friday, DeSantis greeted a flight in Tampa arriving from Israel and said the state is moving quickly to get Floridians and other Americans out of harm’s way and to safety. He said Florida is leading what he called a rescue mission to return Americans to the U.S. amid the ongoing conflict.

“We, of course, anticipate that there’ll be more Iranian attacks in Israel. And sometimes what happens in these things is the response to a U.S. action will be just simply to take it out on Israel. So that’s something that we are contemplating. But the operations will continue,” DeSantis said.

Israel on Monday expanded its war against Iran to include targets associated with the country’s struggling theocracy, striking the gate of a Tehran prison notorious for holding political activists and hitting the headquarters of the military force that suppressed recent protests.
