PUTNAM COUNTY, Fla. – A woman told News4JAX that a mobile home fire that sent her, her fiancé and their roommate to the hospital Sunday night started in the laundry room.
According to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, first responders were called to the home on Kin Street in Interlachen Lake Estates around 9 p.m.
Neida Conger said her fiancé was the most severely injured and was flown to the burn unit at UF Shands in Gainesville.
“I smelled something burning, and I went to the laundry room, and there were my clothes on fire,” Conger said. “I was on the phone with 911. I was screaming.”
Conger and another woman who lives in the home were taken to HCA Florida Putnam Hospital.
The Putnam County fire marshal is handling the investigation. Deputies said arson is being investigated as a potential cause.
Conger said she told investigators she was in and out of consciousness and doesn’t know how the fire started.
