On Monday night, Alachua County deputies said they received multiple calls reporting that a truck was traveling south on the northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 301.

“Callers indicated the vehicle appeared to have already been involved in a crash and was driving head-on toward other motorists‚” the sheriff’s office said.

Moments later, an Alachua County deputy found the truck driving in the wrong direction, and, in an effort to stop the truck, positioned their patrol car in the middle of the roadway and turned on its emergency lights.

Video captured the moment the truck crashed head-on into the patrol car, which is followed by plenty of smoke filling the truck.

Deputies then noticed the truck had caught fire and began working to pull the driver out safely just before the truck became fully engulfed in flames.

“An investigation later revealed that the driver was experiencing a significant medical emergency, which contributed to the erratic driving,“ the sheriff’s office said. ”The individual was transported to a local hospital for treatment.”
