In a recent meeting, the council discussed lowering the appropriation to $30 million, with $15 million designated for various council priorities to ensure the bill’s passage.

An amendment passed on Monday, introduced by Councilmember Ken Amaro, allocates $5 million of the funds specifically for countywide affordable housing projects.

This decision reflects the findings of a recent UNF poll, which revealed that affordable housing is the top concern among Jacksonville residents.

The amendment also includes funding for workforce development and the Downtown Preservation and Revitalization Program (DPRP).

“This was an opportunity for the Council to take leadership on this countywide problem. By including affordable housing in this legislation, we affirmed housing is a priority in our community,” said Councilmember Matt Carlucci in a written statement to News4JAX.

The revised legislation continues to move through to the Finance Committee for consideration.

The primary goal of the ordinance is to provide financial support for residential development incentives along the downtown riverfront.
