How a Duval County woman turned a DoorDash delivery into a chance to lend a helping hand

DUVAL COUNTY, Fla. – Interacting with delivery drivers is usually a one-time thing, but for one Duval County woman, her recent food delivery turned into a chance to lend a helping hand.

A GoFundMe set up by Ireland Dannehold is going viral after she interacted with a Doordasher at her apartment. She said she couldn’t stop thinking about him after their interaction.

“I usually order DoorDash a lot, but this one stuck out to me because it was like, this old man that came up to the door and he had like a brace on his leg,” Dannehold said.

Her apartment is up three flights of stairs...and she took a few minutes to answer the door, but that didn’t prevent her DoorDash driver from having a positive attitude.

“I opened the door, and he just started smiling and then I noticed on the camera he kind of like had a limp to him when he walked away and I just felt bad that he had to walk up those stairs,” Dannehold said.

She thought about that interaction for a few days and wound up showing the doorbell footage to some friends who encouraged her to post it on TikTok.

Within a day, her video reached 2 million views and the GoFundMe raised more than $13,000.

“Everybody wanted to donate to him, which was great. So we started that GoFundMe, literally yesterday. It’s probably been about 24 hours, and it’s so far raised quite a bit of money,” Dannehold said.

Commenters helped her identify the man as Larry Bailey. One was from a family member sharing that he does DoorDash as a hobby. While some were from his grandkids sharing their love and others were from people he’s interacted with whether it was in his travels as a Doordasher or just lending a helping hand. She hopes to show him how much he’s valued in the community.

She said she messaged him on Facebook.

“He said he would love to set something up to go to lunch and we can talk about it. I would like to formally meet him, because I’ve heard such good things,” Dannehold said.

It serves as a reminder that sometimes being kind can go a long way.
