JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Incoming Jacksonville City Council Vice President Nick Howland outlined his priorities and challenges for the upcoming year, emphasizing the importance of public safety.
Howland highlighted a 50% drop in the murder rate, attributing this success to increased funding and resources for the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

He noted that these efforts have contributed to safer streets and neighborhoods, fostering a sense of security among residents.
Howland also addressed the pressing budget concerns facing the city, projecting deficits of up to $300 million over the next three years.
“We need to leave more money in the hands of Jacksonville residents so they can afford the higher inflation,” Howland said.
Looking ahead, Howland expressed optimism about upcoming projects, such as Project Bluebird, which is expected to bring 1,200 jobs to the area.
