Positively JAX: Spring Park educators honored for heartfelt response during student emergency

GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. – This month’s Positively JAX Award highlights a moment of pure instinct and compassion at Spring Park Elementary in Clay County.

Earlier this school year, during a field day event, young student Zayne suffered a traumatic injury—breaking his arm in two places. What happened next left a lasting impression on his family and the entire school community.

Without hesitation, teacher Ms. Emmie Fagan climbed into the ambulance with Zayne, ensuring he wouldn’t face the frightening ride to the hospital alone. Principal Tiffany Outman met them at the ER, staying by the student’s side until his parents could arrive hours later.

Zayne’s parents say the support made all the difference.

“She stayed there the whole time with Zayne, comforting him, making sure he was calm,” they said. “Without her, it would’ve been a wreck. An absolute wreck.”

Ms. Fagan admits she was scared—but trusted her heart.

“I was panicking,” she recalled. “But I wasn’t going to let him ride in that ambulance by himself. He’s a little boy with special needs—that’s a lot to handle alone.”

She says her students inspire her every day.

“They all deserve someone to advocate for them,” Fagan said. “That’s what I’m here for.”

For their selfless actions and everyday dedication, Ms. Fagan and Principal Outman are this month’s PositivelyJAX Award recipients.
