ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – On June 2, the City of St. Augustine will launch its annual Tree Canopy Enhancement Program, where homeowners within city limits can request a tree to be planted for free on their private property.

Homeowners can apply online starting June 2 through August 31, or until the city runs out. You can choose from nine tree species: Live Oak, Red Cedar, East Palatka Holly, Sand Live Oak, Redbud, Yaupon Holly, Simpson’s Stopper, Winged Elm, and Sweetbay Magnolia.

City staff will review applications and conduct a site assessment to confirm the tree fits the space. Final selections will be made in September, and trees will be planted in January through February.

After a tree is planted, the property owner is responsible for maintaining the tree.
