Councilman announces plans to introduce legislation on future of Jacksonville’s neighborhoods, citizen engagement

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A councilman announced on Friday his plans to introduce legislation regarding the future of Jacksonville’s neighborhoods and citizen engagement.

Jacksonville City Councilman Rahman K. Johnson was a guest speaker at the National Neighborhoods Conference (NUSA) held at the Prime Osborn Center, where he outlined his plans to introduce legislation to codify the Neighborhood Bill of Rights (NBR) into the Jacksonville Municipal Code.

“We can’t build thriving cities on silent neighborhoods. If we want our cities to move forward, we’ve got to stop treating neighborhoods like scenery and make sure that we treat them like the stakeholders that they are,” Johnson said.

The proposal aims to “formalize neighborhood involvement in public policy, empower advisory committees, and ensure lasting civic engagement across all districts."
