JAX creates online form to update travelers with cars in hourly garage

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. A fire broke out Friday afternoon in the hourly garage at Jacksonville International Airport, leading to significant disruptions for travelers.

For those with vehicles parked in the hourly garage, the airport has set up a form for travelers to sign up for updates regarding their cars.

The airport has been actively providing online updates to ensure that travelers are prepared in advance. While normal operations have resumed, the hourly garage remains closed for the foreseeable future.

The fire caused a partial collapse on the second and third floors, damaging approximately 50 vehicles. Officials are continuing their investigation into the cause of the fire.

Meanwhile, the Daily Garage, Daily Surface Lot, and Economy Lots are open for exiting passengers only.

New photos shared by the airport show just how extreme the level of damage caused by the fire was.

Sara Jones, a traveler returning from Tucson, Arizona, expressed her concerns after parking in the affected garage, saying, “I have someone picking me up...until I know the status of my car.”

The airport continues to encourage travelers to consider alternative transportation methods, such as off-site parking, rideshare services like Uber, or being dropped off by friends or family.
