JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The United States Census Bureau released on Thursday its 2024 population estimates, and Jacksonville was among the cities that experienced some notable growth.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau’s Vintage 2024 estimates, which analyzed growth from July 2023 to July 2024, the South experienced the highest average population growth of any region.

“Cities of all sizes, in all regions, showed faster growth and larger gains than in 2023, except for small cities in the South, whose average population growth rate remained the same,” said Crystal Delbé, a statistician in the Census Bureau’s Population Division.

Jacksonville was also ranked as the 10th most populous city in the country.
In addition, Jacksonville was one of two cities that crossed the 1 million population threshold last year, with a total population of 1,009,833.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the nation’s housing stock grew about 1.4 million units between 2023 and 2024, reaching a total of reaching a total of 146.8 million. California had the largest number of housing units, followed by Texas and Florida.
