New $38M sports complex in St. Johns County to include 8 rectangular fields, a track, playgrounds and more

The county will break ground on the SJC Tournament Complex on June 4

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – St. Johns County officials will soon break ground on a new sports complex located near the Shearwater neighborhood.

The SJC Tournament Complex will feature eight rectangular fields, a track, playgrounds, and multipurpose fields, including five artificial and three grass fields.

Ryan Kane, the Director of Parks and Recreation for St. Johns County, shared details about the $38 million project.

“It’s really to try to catch up on the infrastructure for the need of the growth of the community,” Kane said. “It’s amazing to see this investment into parks and recreation, is pretty impressive.”

The new facility will be developed on a 40-acre parcel and aims to provide a space for various sports leagues and recreational activities.

This new facility will be ideal for Jesse Green and her family.

“I love being outdoors, and so do they, so just this community as a whole, we really love that,” Green said.

County officials said people living in Shearwater will have very little traffic impact other than construction vehicles coming in and out.

The county will hold a groundbreaking event on June 4 to mark the start of construction.

Officials said they expect to be done by November or December of next year.
