Clay County police memorial service honors fallen officers

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – The Clay County Sheriff’s Office, along with local law enforcement agencies, held the 2025 Police Memorial Service to honor officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to the community.

The ceremony was held at Moosehaven in Orange Park.

Representatives of the Clay County Sheriff’s Office, the Orange Park Police Department, and the Green Cove Springs Police Department spoke.

“Behind every darkened badge are loved ones who carry the weight and loss of grief,” Clay County Undersheriff Ron Lendvay said. “To those families here with us or joining us in spirit from afar, we see you, we grieve with you, and we stand beside you. We also share in the pride you feel for your loved one’s service to your community. This day is not only about respect, honor and remembrance of those whom we have lost in the line of duty, it’s also a call to all of us to continue to support our law enforcement officers.”

Tara Green, Clay County Clerk and Comptroller, also spoke, along with Sgt. Major Lewis from the United States Marine Corps and Florida House of Representatives member Judson Sapp.

Among the fallen law enforcement officers honored were Clay County detective David White, Clay County deputy Ben Zirbel, Clay County Sergeant Erik Twisdale, Clay County deputy Clint Segel and Green Cove Springs police chief Derek Asdot.
