Alec Baldwin Stars in Gritty Western Centered on Family, Redemption — and a Real-Life Tragedy

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Set in the wilds of 1880s Wyoming, the story of “Rust,” a movie that premieres on streaming and in theatres on May 2, follows Lucas Hollister (played by newcomer Patrick Scott McDermott), a young man who accidentally kills a rancher and is sentenced to hang. But just when all hope seems lost, his estranged grandfather — legendary outlaw Harland Rust, played by Alec Baldwin — shows up and breaks him out of jail.

After an unthinkable tragedy on set, the cast and crew of “Rust” returned to finish what they started — at the request of the family of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins, who was accidentally shot and killed on set.

“Helena had a saying that she used to say, how can we make this better? And every day that was in everyone’s forefront of our minds,” Josh Hopkins explained.

Now, the filmmakers hope audiences will set aside the headlines and witness the story, the performances, and above all, Hutchins’ final work.
