JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Travis Hunter, the 2024 Heisman Trophy winner and newest member of the Jaguars, is best known for his unique ability to shine on both sides of the ball.

The 21-year-old has been vocal about his love for fishing. In fact, he also has several videos on his YouTube channel where he can be seen enjoying himself as he shows off his amazing fishing skills.
According to a feature by Sports Illustrated, Hunter grew up fishing canals and ponds in Florida and described him as an “accurate caster with an advanced eye” who can read a body of water well enough to detect where bass might lurk.

Well, luckily for Hunter, he won’t have to travel far to pull out his fishing rod now that he has been officially drafted by the Jaguars.
Jacksonville has plenty of accessible fishing spots, with a variety of fresh and saltwater options.

St. Johns River
The fishing opportunities along the beautiful St. Johns River are endless.
According to Visit Jacksonville, fishermen can find a variety of fish, including Trout, Redfish, Spanish Mackerel, Sheepshead, Black Drum, Jacks, Tarpon, Flounder and other Inshore saltwater fish.

Intracoastal Waterway
People can also fish from several docks and piers along the Intracoastal Waterway, or go in the water on a boat or kayak.
However, fishermen are asked to be aware of the tides, as water levels may drop significantly during low tide.

The Beaches
One of the many perks of living in the 904 is that we have beaches. And of course, that means we have easy access to fishing as well.
From whiting and black drum to bluefish and sea trout — it is very likely you will find your perfect catch.

- Mayport Village
The Nassau Sound Fishing Bridge
This mile-long fishing bridge is considered one of the best fishing spots in Northeast Florida.
Fishermen can find whiting, jack, drum, and tarpon.
