Rising orators: Clay County students showcase talent in community speech contest

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – In Clay County, a community speech contest took place Monday night.

The event, which began around 6 p.m. at the University of Florida’s Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences Extension Center in Green Cove Springs, featured 25 poster entries and 23 speeches from Clay County middle and high school students.

First place receives $200, second place gets $100, and third place receives $75. The winners will also advance to state and national contests.

Entries were asked to be related to this year’s theme, “Home is Where the Habitat is.”

The event was hosted by the Clay Soil and Water Conservation District and focused on the importance of conservation efforts.

Eleventh-graders Madelynn Adler and Addyson Hackney went home as winners along with 10th-grader Eden Daniels.
