The agency says that in March, it received information that Johnathon Jones, who was a soldier with the Georgia State Defense Force, had been forging military leave orders and submitting them to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.

Upon investigating, it was learned that from February 2024 to February 2025, Jones submitted 39 days of military leave, totaling $8,115, which was paid to him by CCSO.

“Further investigative efforts by our detectives revealed that on 30 different dates he claimed to be on leave and performing his GSDF duties, he was in Clay, Duval, St. Johns, and Orange counties,” CCSO said.

On Monday, Jones was booked into jail and resigned from his position with the agency.
