“Fire watch operations will continue overnight, with local crews actively monitoring and managing the situation. We appreciate the community’s patience and understanding as we work to ensure safety,” Camden County EMA said.

Around 11 a.m. on Sunday, Camden County EMA said it was monitoring two active fires in the area, one near Horse Stamp Church Road and another at the Municipal Solid Waste site.

Due to the flames, the MSW landfill site will be closed through Monday. Barring any changes, normal trash collection will resume on Tuesday.

The fires were not threatening any homes or structures, but the agency did encourage drivers to avoid any smoke-affected areas.

The City of Kingsland put out the following statement in response to the trash collection schedule changes:

Due to a fire incident at the Camden County landfill, there may be interruptions to the sanitation pickup schedule on Monday, April 21, 2025. The City of Kingsland will strive to service as many households as possible under the circumstances.

Normal operations at the landfill are anticipated to resume on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. Any households that are not serviced on Monday will be attended to on Tuesday, April 22, 2025.

We will provide updates here as new information becomes available. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this unexpected situation. Thank you.

City of Kingsland

Camden County EMA said updates on the landfill’s reopening and trash collection schedules will be provided as soon as possible, and asked residents to continue monitoring the Camden County, Georgia Government Facebook page for updates.
