Multi-vehicle crash leaves St. Augustine woman critically injured, FHP says

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – A 77-year-old woman from St. Augustine is in the hospital with serious injuries after her SUV crashed into another vehicle and a semi-truck on I-95 South near State Road 206 in St. Johns County, Florida Highway Patrol said.

FHP said the SUV was on the exit ramp to State Road 206 when, for unknown reasons, the woman exited the exit ramp lane and abruptly drove back onto the highway.

The SUV’s left side hit the back of a vehicle that left the scene, but FHP said it was described to them as a white SUV with a trailer in tow.

The 77-year-old woman’s SUV then deflected off a guardrail back onto the highway and crashed into the back of a semi-truck, causing its gas tank to “rupture and disperse a large amount of fuel onto the roadway,” FHP said.

I-95 South was closed for hours as crews cleaned up the fuel, but all lanes have since reopened.
