Video shows tractor-trailer slamming into Jacksonville building; driver in serious condition

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Security video obtained by News4JAX shows the moment a tractor-trailer slammed into a Jacksonville building Tuesday morning.

The crash happened in the 900 block of Talleyrand Avenue, near Marshall Street.

According to Jacksonville Fire and Rescue, the driver had to be extricated from the back and was then transported to a hospital in serious condition.

“They ended up cutting the back side of the semi cab and tunneled their way through as crews worked from the front side coming in to gain access to the driver and eventually get the driver out,” JFRD Captain Eric Prosswimmer said.

The video shows the truck flying down the road and hitting the building as people watch in disbelief from a gas station across the street, including Todd Hines, who lives nearby.

“That building been there for probably 100 years,” Hines said. “It was horrible.”

Property records date the building back to 1926.

Hines said he is glad everyone is alive.

“The man upstairs got all the good for everybody,” Hines said.
