ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Local and national artists showcased their creativity at the Old Town Art Show in St. Augustine on Sunday.
Debbie Baraoidan is from Central Florida. She made a mixed medium mosaic.
“Anything that has something embedded in it is polymer clay, which is baked at a low temperature in the oven. And I use natural stones and freshwater pearls to fill in between all the tiles,” Baraoidan said.
Vanessa Hajje traveled from Asheville, North Carolina. She said the people are friendly and the vendors have been great. She described the art she displayed at the show.
“I call it stepping into my vivid dream world. Sometimes I even use in my dreams as inspiration, like this one behind you is is oh, basically a dream of being in the ocean and I’m really into the octopus elements. And first I start out with just water, just a lot of water and a lot of drips. And then I see where it forms from there and where it goes from there,” Hajje said.
Gabriela Díaz-Capt displayed “The Dudes,” which is a sculpture of a pair of pants where you can put anything in it, including plants.
“We make one of these standing up ones, and we put on the porch, and everybody loves it and commented about it. We can be here. You can use it for a toilet paper. I have a customer that puts their TV remotes in it. It can be whatever you want,” Díaz-Capt said.
Timothy Stellar, from Sarasota, made an LED headboard for his son’s bed.
“I cut my first shark out for my little boy’s room, turned into a headboard, but I was thinking, like how do I make this a nightlight? And then the LED light world just became battery-operated. And I was thinking that’s perfect, I don’t have to worry about hiding a wire, buying an outlet. Put it behind that shark and the idea was born,” Stellar said.
