Former prosecutor to fill last vacancy on Jacksonville Journey Forward board

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A former prosecutor will fill the last spot on the Jacksonville Journey Forward board, according to a filed resolution.

Bernie de la Rionda was with the state attorney’s office for decades and was well-known for handling multiple high-profile cases, including death penalty cases.

He also backed Marsy’s Law, which would give victims of violent crime and their families rights equal to the accused.

The board has 11 members, but only 10 were in place when it held its first meeting in February.

Jacksonville Journey Forward was established in 2008 under former Mayor John Peyton. The group successfully reduced crime rates in the city for several years.
