Jacksonville Humane Society CEO Lawrence Nicolas said the pandemic put a halt on the event for a few years, but now the organization can fundraise for the 8,500 animals taken in each year plus the 5,000 families they’re able to keep together.
“We help several thousand students every single year with our education programs, and we couldn’t do any of this without this level of community engagement we get today,” Nicolas said.
Alongside tons of vendors, the human society’s goal was to raise $100,000. He said they’re confident they’ll reach it.
Sean Lueck, the chair of the JHS Board of Directors, brought Petey out to play with other dogs.
“Coming out here and giving my dog an opportunity to interact with all of these other dogs, a wonderful experience,” Lueck said. “The humane society does an amazing job of placing animals.”
