Marvin Weeks unveiled the mural that depicts a candle, the Sidney Lanier Bridge, and the words “Plant Love.”

He said he’s hoping the mural brings change and unity.

“This was a space to come and congregate and share thoughts, spirituality, meditation, just have comments about what’s happening in our community,” Weeks said.

Guy Philmore was riding his bike near the intersection of Lee and L Streets. It’s an area he said he used to sell drugs and rob people before he went to prison for murder for three decades.

He said the mural is a start to the response to the murders.

“Most of my life was in prison,” Philmore said. “I hate to say it, and I don’t brag about this here, but I was a bad person back then.”

This area is now the backdrop for where Weeks painted the mural. He said the murders is something the small city of Brunswick doesn’t need.

“It was just that simple, because love is kind of what’s needed in our community to bring it back together,” Weeks said.

Philmore agrees with him too.

“You got to do right,” Philmore said.

He added that if people keep shooting others, they’ll end up like him, spending the majority of their lives behind bars

He said he’s hoping the mural brings change and unity.

Weeks also painted a mural of Ahmaud Arbery on a building in Brunswick. It’s located about nine miles from the Satilla Shores neighborhood where Arbery was shot and killed.
