JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The ex-boyfriend of a woman burned alive at a Golden Corral restaurant in 2016 will spend the rest of his life behind bars for her horrendous murder.
Darryl Whipple pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the death of Carol Demmons. He was sentenced to life in prison without parole on Tuesday.

Demmons, who was 56 years old, was working at a Golden Corral on the Westside on Oct. 12, 2016, when Whipple came into the restaurant, doused her with gasoline and lit her on fire while she worked in the bakery area.
Police said Whipple returned to his car to wait for police to arrive.
Demmons suffered severe burns on 62% of her body and died from her injuries.
