The election will determine who will fill the seat left vacant by Mike Waltz, who recently became President Trump’s National Security Adviser. The district encompasses the southern half of St. Johns County, along with Putnam and Flagler Counties.

Randy Fine, the Republican candidate who has received President Trump’s endorsement, expressed optimism about his campaign’s efforts, saying the overall efforts have been successful, which is a sentiment that was echoed by a top Democratic Party official who was in St. Augustine on behalf of Josh Weil, who recently received the endorsement of Democratic senator Bernie Sanders.

Photos shared on social media show candidates Josh Weil and Randy Fine actively campaigning and speaking to constituents ahead of Tuesday’s special election. Both candidates are considered front runners in the race for Florida’s sixth congressional district.

Recent polling indicates that Weil is not far behind Fine, falling within the margin of error. This result may come as a surprise, given President Trump’s 30-point victory in the district last November. However, a political science professor at the University of North Florida believes Fine is likely to win, suggesting that the race may not be as competitive as some think.

News4JAX also spoke with Fine and Democratic National Committee Chair Ken Martin, who was canvassing on behalf of Weil. Both candidates discussed their final pushes to secure voter support.

“There is a lot of buyer’s remorse right now in this country,” Martin said. “We’re seeing Republicans swing quite a bit our way. We’re seeing independent voters swing our way. We’re seeing Democrats energized, Republicans demoralized.”

In contrast, Fine emphasized the importance of his campaign’s message. “People understand what’s at stake. They don’t want a Bernie Sanders socialist as their congressman. They just don’t. They want to stand with President Trump, and that’s why they’re going to vote for me,” he stated.
