ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – St. Johns County Fire Rescue said on Saturday that its crews are working a brush fire in St. Augustine.
SJCFR said the fire occurred in the area of County Road 214 and Carter Road and grew to about 40 acres. Around 7 p.m., SJCFR said the flames were fully contained.
The agency added that crews will be in the area all night, monitoring any flare-ups.
In a video shared with News4JAX by St. Johns County Fire Rescue, viewers are able to see what the fire looked like at its peak.
“It’s uneasy,” said St. Augustine resident Justin Cox. “It wasn’t a good feeling getting a phone call when you’re that far away, the stress and anxiety of driving two hours to get back here to see what was going on.”
Other residents said this wasn’t the first time they’ve experienced something like this.
“This is our third one in 17 years being here, and this is the closest it’s ever gotten,” said Maggie Florio.
The sheriff’s office and the fire department say the cause of the fire is under investigation. No injuries or structural damage stemming from the fire have been reported.
Just before 9 p.m., SJCFR posted a video to social media providing a more in-depth view of the fire.
