Attorneys for embattled Celebration Church founding pastors withdraw from ongoing legal fight

Stovall and Kerri Weems (wjxt)

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The attorneys representing the founding pastors of Celebration Chruch, Stovall and Kerri Weems, filed a motion to withdraw from the ongoing legal battle.

According to court documents, the lawyers cited professional considerations and irreconcilable differences as the reason behind their request to be removed from the case.

The document also said that Weems did not comply with the terms of representation.

The Weems are involved in two cases: Defamation claims involving a church investigative report that outlined allegations of spiritual and emotional abuse, financial misconduct, narcissism and more against Stovall Weems and a case that involved a home where the Weemses were living on Black Hammock Island, which is owned by the church.

Weems and his wife founded the church in Jacksonville in 1998 and it grew to have multiple campuses around Florida and the world.

A federal judge ruled in October 2023 that Stovall Weems could not sue a national-church planting organization over his split from the Jacksonville megachurch.

In 2022, The Weemses filed a lawsuit for injunctive relief against the church, alleging financial misconduct.

The church then accused the couple of fraud, improper use of PPP loans and spiritual and emotional abuse.
