Middleburg man charged with custodial sexual battery in child exploitation investigation

CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – A Middleburg man was arrested on Wednesday in connection with a child exploitation investigation, according to the Clay County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said the CCSO Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Unit, with the help of the Northeast Florida INTERCEPT Task Force, arrested Charles Peter Browne, 42, after the SWAT Unit served a search warrant to a home on Lazy Acres Road.

According to CCSO, during the search warrant, the occupants came out of the home and were detained. As the home was processed for evidence, the occupants were interviewed by ICAC detectives and the Department of Children and Family Services.

As a result of the investigation, detectives found probable cause to arrest Browne, one of the home’s occupants, for custodial sexual battery.

Browne was booked into the Clay County jail, and his bond was set at $500,003.

The investigation is still ongoing.
