Jaguars fans said the project is needed for the team to move into the future. Kyle Geary and his kids were excited to be on camera.
“I think it’s great for the city...just bring more people to Jacksonville and it’ll help revitalize downtown and make it a more attractive place to visit,” Geary said.
Bernard Johnson, another fan said the stadium is lackluster compared to other stadiums in Florida.
“[It’s] not as good-looking,” Johnson said. “Obviously a football field but it could be better.”
In 2026, the Jaguars will play in front of a reduced capacity of 43,500 with the upper decks closed for construction.
Team president Mark Lamping said the Jaguars are still working on where the team will play in 2027 as major construction begins. That decision will be made at the owner’s meetings in May.
The Jaguars are considering playing games in either Orlando’s Camping World Stadium or the University of Florida’s Ben Hill Griffin Stadium.
Florida Citrus Sports is asking Orange County for money to renovate Camping World so it could possibly host the Jaguars in 2027.
There is also the possibility that Jacksonville will play an additional home game in London in 2027.
The Stadium of the Future is set to open August 2028.
