Shooting that killed 7-year-old Breon Allen connected to rap song, warring Jacksonville gangs ATK, 6 block: warrants

Investigators said a rap song made by ATK members dissing 6 block, including slain rapper Julio Foolio, preceded the deadly shooting

JSO said 18-year-old Keith Fields, 20-year-old Dannel Larkins, 21-year-old Keith Johnson, and 24-year-old Zharod Sykes are facing several charges in connection with the shooting that killed Breon Allen Jr. and seriously injured his cousin, Lafayette Mango Jr., 21. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The shooting death of 7-year-old Breon Allen Jr. in January has direct ties to an ongoing feud between rival Jacksonville gangs who are also involved in making rap music, according to the arrest warrants of the four men now facing charges in his death.

On Friday, News4JAX obtained the arrest warrants for 18-year-old Keith Fields, 20-year-old Dannel Larkins, 21-year-old Keith Johnson, and 24-year-old Zharod Sykes who are facing several charges in connection with the shooting that killed Allen Jr. and seriously injured his cousin, Lafayette Mango Jr., 21.

Investigators said all four men accused in Allen’s death are members or associates of 6 block and the shooting that took Allen’s life “was motivated with the purpose to benefit, promote, and/or further the interest of the criminal gang.”

Police said Mango is a rapper and documented associate of the criminal gang “ATK.” ATK is one of the rival gangs to 6 block, JSO said, and the ongoing feud between the two gangs led to the shooting death of Charles Jones, a popular Jacksonville rapper known as “Julio Foolio,” last year.

Jones was a prominent member of 6 block and all five of the people accused in Jones’ ambush murder in Tampa have connections to either ATK or 1200, another rival gang, according to JSO. The feud between 6 block and its rival gangs ATK and 1200 has spanned over a decade, with dozens of murders by and against both sides, JSO has said.

Following the death of Jones in June 2024, investigators said Mango released a song titled “6 Ways To Die” featuring another rapper who is also affiliated with ATK.

In the song, investigators said Mango “disses” multiple 6 block members who have died, including Foolio, Lawrence Davis, 21, and Adrian McKinzie, 16, who were murdered in 2018 and 2023, respectively. There is also a reference to Julian House, who was murdered in 2023 after he reportedly left a recording studio.

Also in the song by Mango, a reference is made to a photo that members of 6 block took at the gravesite of Royale Smith, an 18-year-old who was killed in the infamous 2018 shooting near the St. Johns Town Center that killed two other people and injured Keyanta Bullard, a well-known Jacksonville rapper known as “Yungeen Ace.” Bullard has long been associated with ATK and has been photographed wearing a diamond chain with the initials.

In the photo referenced in the song, members of 6 block were photographed holding middle fingers to Smith’s grave, according to the warrants.

“That graveyard pic got n***** deceased,” the lyrics of the song state.

Investigators said cell phone location data placed the men accused in Allen’s death at the scene of the shooting as well as near the scene where a black Kia, believed to be used as the getaway car, was later found.

On Jan. 24, Allen and Mango were walking out of a home on Commonwealth Avenue when a car, believed to be a Kia Soul, pulled up. People then got out and started shooting, JSO said.

“It was a targeted, planned act, one with which, during the murders, clearly saw Breon walking innocently with the intended target,” Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters said Wednesday when the arrests were announced.

Waters said the arrests of the four men “won’t be the last” in connection with Allen’s murder.

“There are other individuals who planned and participated in this heinous act. We know who they are, and our investigators are building strong evidentiary cases against those perpetrators. They will be arrested, they will face the justice system,” Waters said.

All four suspects are facing second-degree murder, conspiracy to commit murder and attempted first-degree murder charges.
