These particular closures will feature the removal of overhead signs along I-95 from Emerson Street to Atlantic Boulevard but are part of a larger project.

The project, a $247 million design-build project that is being completed by Superior Construction and WGI, Inc., seeks to widen I-95 from south of Atlantic Boulevard to south of Emerson Street, and includes the following:

  • Adding lanes to I-95 North and South for a total of five travel lanes in each direction
  • Raising the profile of the highway to “improve sight distance”
  • Replacing bridges over Emerson Street and San Diego Road
  • Reconfiguring interchange at I-95 and Emerson Street
  • Installing new ponds and drainage improvements
  • Adding, replacing sound walls
  • Resurfacing Emerson Street from U.S. 1 to Spring Park Road

Below are the detours in place for those whose morning or nightly commute includes traveling along the closed roadways.

  • Westbound Emerson Street: Drivers will take Emerson Street west to Philips Highway (U.S. 1) north to access I-95 North.
  • Eastbound Emerson Street: Drivers will take Emerson Street east to Beach Boulevard west and continue on Atlantic Boulevard to access I-95 North.

Experts add that it’s important to remember that with the time change and shift in daylight, it may be darker in the early morning commute, so drivers are asked to pay extra attention to their surroundings.
