LAKE CITY, Fla. – A 31-year-old man was fatally shot Tuesday night when he broke into a home on SW Leslie Glen in Lake City, police said.
According to the Lake City Police Department, an adult in the home had an active protection order against Langston Sykes.

That adult was in the home along with other adults and children around 11 p.m. when Sykes successfully broke in, police said.
According to LCPD, one of the adults in the home fired multiple shots at Sykes when he rushed toward them.
When officers and paramedics arrived, they tried unsuccessfully to save Sykes' life.
Investigators said it appears the case may qualify under Florida Stand Your Ground Law.
“This is a tragic incident, and our thoughts are with everyone affected,” said Police Chief Gerald Butler. “Based on the investigation, it appears this may be a case of a resident acting in self-defense during a home invasion. Our detectives are working diligently to gather all the facts to ensure a thorough and complete investigation. We encourage anyone with information to come forward.”
