JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A resident shared their experience of a shocking incident involving a car crashing into their apartment building in Arlington Monday night.
The resident, who was not home at the time, described arriving at the scene to find police officers and neighbors gathered outside. They were surprised to see the car embedded in the building, having caused significant damage to their kitchen area, including the stove, fridge, and countertops.
“When we got there, before we even turned into our apartment complex, it was police, like on the side of the building before you turn, and then when we turn, we seen like a whole bunch of police officers there with, like the people from upstairs,“ the resident, who didn’t want to be identified, said. ”And the lady from upstairs was like, she just heard a big boom in the building, and it kind of shook the building and it scared her, and that was it. But the police didn’t tell us, like any story of how it got there or how it happened.”
The resident expressed frustration with the apartment complex management, noting that they had not been contacted and were unable to reach anyone for assistance. As a result, they were temporarily staying at a relative’s house.
They were thankful they weren’t home during the incident, as they often spent time in the area where the car crashed.
“I feel like, an hour and three minutes before that happened, we was just gonna go home and, like, sit and eat, and I was just so happy that we didn’t, because exactly where they hit was, like, where we warm our food up at so, you know, we were standing there, somebody would have hit one of us, or, like, the baby, or anything could have happened,” the resident said.
They were puzzled by how the car managed to crash through concrete and a tree to reach their apartment.
The resident mentioned that the police had not shared details about how the car ended up in the building or if the driver had been found.
News4JAX reached out to the apartment complex, and at the time of this publication, we hadn’t heard back.
