JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The widely contested Chick-fil-A restaurant, given the green light to build in an Oceanway community, is making progress to open its doors.
The popular restaurant that was met with supreme opposition from concerned neighbors is awaiting permits to begin construction off Lady Lake Road and Bradley Cove Road.

Residents of the North Creek subdivision fought the rezoning for months, voicing concerns about potential traffic issues, student safety and property values being affected if the unwanted restaurant opened.
Ultimately, the Jacksonville city council approved the rezoning in a 12 to 7 vote in June.
News4JAX contacted Chick-fil-A for an update on the new location and they sent us a statement:
It’s our pleasure to share that we plan to open a new Chick-fil-A restaurant on Duval Station Road in Jacksonville. Upon receipt of final permits, we look forward to beginning construction later this year and sharing future updates on hiring efforts, our local Owner-Operator and care for the community.
We look forward to expanding our connection in the community, where each locally owned and operated restaurant creates 80 – 120 jobs, and to serving all of our Guests delicious food in an environment of genuine hospitality.
