JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – When most people think of Jacksonville’s Northside, the airport and zoo are typically among the spots that come to mind. However, many don’t realize that the area is also home to some popular blueberry farms.
News4JAX stopped by one of those farms, Kent’s Blueberry Farm, near Lem Turner Road.
The owners weren’t available for an interview, but we talked to neighbors who said hundreds of cars line up at the farm throughout the summer to get blueberries — when they’re in season.
Then, across the Northside, past New Berlin Road, there’s Nana’s Blueberry Farm, which also gets massive traffic through the summer.
Since it is hard to find blueberries during the winter, News4JAX spoke with several residents and asked about their knowledge of the small, but delicious blue fruits.
To our surprise, few people were aware the area had blueberry farms. But they’re around.
Some of the owners told News4JAX they try to not promote it too much because there’s so much interest that they’re overwhelmed when picking season arrives.
