17, 18-year-old killed in Flagler County crash; 1 of 5 overnight deadly crashes in our viewing area

FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. – A 17-year-old and 18-year-old are dead after a single-car crash in Flagler County early Sunday morning. It’s one of five fatal crashes that happened overnight in our viewing area.

Florida Highway Patrol said two teens crashed on County Road 304 near Hudson Allen Road in Bunnell just before 4:30 a.m.

Investigators said the 18-year-old, who was from Seville, was driving when he drifted across the eastbound lane and onto the left shoulder. FHP said he hit the end of concrete bridge railing.

Investigators said the 17-year-old passenger from Pierson was not wearing a seatbelt.

FHP said they both died at the scene.

That was the second fatal crash in Flagler County Sunday morning.

In the first Flagler County crash, investigators said a 54-year-old motorcyclist died around midnight while trying to pass an SUV.

FHP said the he was going south on A1A near 9th street.

Troopers said as he tried passing an SUV, the front wheel of the motorcycle hit a raised center median, which led to him being thrown off the bike.

First responders pronounced the man dead at the scene.

FHP confirmed someone was killed in a crash on County Road 218 near Nolan Road in Clay County shortly after 4 a.m.

A pickup truck was traveling west on County Road 218 and an SUV was traveling south towards County Road 218 on Nolan Road.

The SUV entered the path of the pickup truck and struck the driver’s side corner of the front bumper. Both vehicles rotated and stopped facing east on the south shoulder of the road.

The SUV driver died at the scene. FHP said neither driver was wearing a seatbelt.

The agency also said there were a pair of deadly crashes in Columbia County early Sunday morning.

One of the crashes happened shortly after 5:30 a.m. on State Road 100 near County Road 245A in Lake City.

An SUV was disabled in the westbound lane and the driver was standing outside of it.

Another car was traveling west on State Road 100 and the front of the SUV fatally struck the person before striking the rear and left side of the other car.

The other fatal incident in the county happened a little more than 90 minutes later on I-75 south, too far away from Suwannee Valley Road just after 7 a.m. in Wellborn.

FHP said a sedan was driving on I-75 south and a semi-truck and trailer was stopped on the right emergency shoulder.

The sedan tried to pass other traffic by driving onto the emergency shoulder and struck the trailer. The driver died at the scene.
