According to JSO Sergeant Robert Hungerford, the man drove off the roadway and into a retention pond.
Jacksonville Fire Rescue pulled the man from the car and transported him to a local hospital, where he died shortly after his arrival.
Hungerford said it is “likely” the man suffered a medical episode, but the investigation is still ongoing.

As of 11:23 a.m., police said Sam Yepez Road would be shut down in both directions for another hour as crews worked to retrieve the car from the retention pond.
