NASSAU COUNTY, Fla. – The Nassau County Sheriff’s Office has arrested an 11-year-old student on two felony charges: written threats to kill and disturbing lawful assembly with a credible threat.

On February 25, at approximately 6:50 p.m., a threatening voicemail was left on Hillard Elementary School’s business phone. School officials were not made aware of the threat until Wednesday morning.

According to the Nassau County Sheriff’s Office, the student stated in the voicemail, “I am going to kill you guys tomorrow at 1 p.m.”

Investigators said they traced the call to a phone number connected to a student’s family member. Following their investigation, deputies located the 11-year-old student and took him into custody.

As a precautionary measure, additional law enforcement officers were placed at the school.

“Parents please talk to your child if you don’t want to see their mugshot on the news. We take every threat against our schools seriously, regardless of the age of the individual making the threat. The safety of our students and school staff remains our highest priority, and we will continue to respond swiftly and decisively to any threats. This should serve as a reminder that such actions have serious consequences,” said Sheriff Bill Leeper.
