Gracie is originally from Brazil and changed the fighting world when he introduced his family’s form of jiu-jitsu in the early 1990s.

The fighting style, which he describes as a self-defense style, allowed people of any size to win a fight no matter how big the opponent was.

A highlight of the conversation with Gracie was when he spoke about his thoughts going into UFC 1.

“I was 178 pounds. [My opponent] was 220,” Gracie explained. “I choke him out in under a minute, [and] that’s what shocked the world.”

The full interview with Royce Gracie will be on this Wednesday’s episode of Going Ringside. We’ll release it on the News4JAX YouTube Channel, News4JAX+, or wherever you get your podcasts.
