JSO said the situation began earlier this month when Michael Wilt was caught on surveillance footage smashing the glass door of a dollar store on Blanding Boulevard.
“Surveillance footage showed a suspect smashing the glass front door, breaking into a display case, and making off with a stash of cigarettes. But this wasn’t an isolated hit—several other dollar stores in the area had reported similar burglaries,“ JSO said.
The agency said officers staked out a dollar store on 103rd Street and caught Wilt as he was attempting to break into another dollar store.
“[Wilt] was quickly taken into custody,” JSO said. “We used surveillance from the other break-ins to connect Wilt to the crimes, [and] now, Wilt is behind bars at the Duval County Jail.”
