JSO invites families to watch Bold City Police Motorcycle Skills Challenge at EverBank Stadium this weekend

Event tests skills of law enforcement in ‘motorcycle rodeo’

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – News4JAX got a sneak peek Friday morning as law enforcement agencies across Florida and nationwide revved up for the weekend’s Bold City Police Motorcycle Skills Challenge.

The nation’s best riders were practicing for the Friday afternoon Waters Challenge Ride at EverBank Stadium, as well as for Saturday’s all-day events.

Cmdr. Scott Lundquist said Legacy Law Enforcement coordinated with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office to host the “motorcycle rodeo.”

“It’s a skills challenge that we do. This is the first one that we’ve done in a long time, so we’re looking forward to it,” Lundquist said.

Seventeen agencies from across the U.S. are taking part in the event for law enforcement motor men and women.

Lundquist said the events improve skills and help riders increase their reaction time.

“It allows them to come out here and push themselves on a closed course so when they’re riding on the street, it allows them to react quicker,” Lundquist said.

Lundquist said he believes the skills he learned competing in the motorcycle rodeos helped save his life when he crashed several years ago.

The event, which includes the motorcycle challenge, a visit from the JSO mounted unit and a mini car show, is family-friendly and free to watch. Saturday’s all-day events begin with an opening ceremony at 8 a.m.
