ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. – The St. Johns County Board of County Commissioners approved the construction of the Flagler Estates Fire Station 21 and sheriff’s office at its Feb. 4 meeting.
The 6.036-square-foot joint facility for St. Johns County Fire Rescue and the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office will be located in the Flagler Estates community at the intersection of Oliver Avenue and Melanie Street with access to the Hastings area.
“This new combined fire station and sheriff’s office will bring essential public safety services to the Flagler Estates and Hastings community, ensuring faster response times and greater protection for residents,” Sean McGee, St. Johns County Fire Rescue Chief said.
Todd Chandler, who lives in the area, said the new joint facility is something that’s needed.
“It would help with the crime and speeding all sorts of things, I’d say the area can use it in general,” Chandler said.
Vargco LLC will lead the project construction at a cost of $4,001,674 and is estimated to begin in early 2025 to be completed by the end of the year.
