CLAY COUNTY, Fla. – A 49-year-old Middleburg man previously arrested last month in Nassau County during a child sexual exploitation investigation is now facing new sex crime charges in Clay County.
The Clay County Sheriff’s Office arrested Carl Marcus Eubanks Friday morning on charges of sexual battery on a minor, using a computer to lure a minor, traveling to meet a minor for sex, and other charges related to having illegal contact with a minor.
A little more than a week ago, Eubanks bonded out of the Nassau County Jail following his Jan. 19 arrest on charges of traveling to meet a minor for sex, using a computer to lure a minor, and other lesser charges. That criminal case has yet to be adjudicated.
According to the Nassau County arrest report, Eubanks got caught up in a Nassau County sting operation that went after people who were sexually exploiting children. The report states that Eubanks was using the Sniffies app to chat with an undercover detective posing as a 14-year-old boy.
The Sniffies app is a social media platform for gay, bisexual, and bi-curious men.
The Nassau County arrest report revealed that Eubanks suspected he may have possibly been communicating with a law enforcement officer but still exchanged sexual comments and agreed to travel to Yulee to meet with what he thought was a minor.
The arrest report states that when Eubanks was captured and asked if he had ever come into contact with minors in the past on the Sniffies app, he said he had but always blocked them. When asked why he changed his mind and decided to travel to Yulee to meet up with a minor, the report states that he could not explain why.
During the arrest in Nassau County, deputies searched Eubanks vehicle and found methamphetamines, a handgun, and sex toys.
Also, during the investigation, Nassau County deputies got word that Eubanks was suspected of having sex with a child in Clay County.
Friday morning, just before 10:30, Clay County deputies arrived at Eubanks’ Middleburg home and arrested him on a list of criminal sexual charges that include sexual battery on a minor.
A Clay County judge set the bond for Eubanks at a half-million dollars.
As of Friday, Eubanks is facing a list of criminal sexual charges in two counties.
