‘Great to be back’: Kansas City Chiefs’ Chamarri Conner brings Duval pride to Super Bowl week

NEW ORLEANS, La. – Super Bowl week is in full swing, and News4JAX anchor Jenese Harris is on the ground in New Orleans to capture the excitement of opening night.

Among the highlights is a local connection with Kansas City Chiefs player Chamarri Conner, who hails from Duval County and could potentially bring a championship ring back home.

“This is opening night here in the Superdome,” Harris said. “Right behind me, you see him, Jalen Hurts. This is the media’s opportunity to ask any questions they can think of, but it is also a night for the fans. Take a look, this place is packed with fans on all levels.”

The Superdome buzzed with energy as the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles took center stage. Fans were treated to a New Orleans-style celebration, complete with a band playing and players interacting with the crowd.

For the Eagles, stars like Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley are gearing up for a chance to win it all next Sunday. Meanwhile, Eagles wide receiver Devonta Smith made a special connection with young fans from Oschner Children’s Hospital, who attended the event virtually.

Chiefs fans had their eyes on Coach Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes, and Travis Kelce, who is famously known as Taylor Swift’s boyfriend. However, for Duval residents, the spotlight was on Chamarri Conner, who is in his second season with the Chiefs.

In an interview with Harris, Conner shared his excitement, saying, “It feels great to be back, another Super Bowl, a great opportunity, a great week, so I’m very excited.” He emphasized the importance of sticking to his routine, stating, “We try to treat it like a regular game so we don’t want to, you know, try to overdo too much.”

Conner also had an inspiring message for aspiring athletes in Duval County, Northeast Florida, and Southeast Georgia: “I say keep going, keep grinding, work hard, keep putting the hard work in. It’s not for no reason; it’s going to pay off.”

As the countdown to the Super Bowl continues, fans and players alike are soaking in the excitement of this unforgettable week in New Orleans.
