Former Orange Park police chief talks retirement, legacy, and how the department has grown since 1993

ORANGE PARK, Fla. – After protecting during a 35-year career in law enforcement, former Orange Park Police Chief Gary Goble decided to retire almost a year ago.

Goble left the department on March 28, 2024, after serving as the police chief for 13 years. He joined the department in 1993.

“I’ve always said that law enforcement is like a calling,” Goble said when he retired last year. “It’s got to be something that you love to do, obviously, you miss birthdays, you miss your kids growing up a lot of times. You have regrets, but you understand it’s something that needs to be done.”

Almost a year later, News4JAX interviewed Goble about his new life as a retired officer, his legacy, and what he learned about the town of Orange Park during all of those years of service.
