ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – K9s For Warriors hosted Canines and Local Finds, a free dog adoption event in St. Augustine bringing together local shelters, vendors, and community members for a day of pet adoptions and support.

More than 50 adoptable dogs from local shelters were available with no adoption fees. In addition to pet adoptions, the event featured more than 30 vendors and food trucks.

K9s For Warriors, an organization that rescues and trains service dogs for veterans with PTSD, organized the event to give back. Daniel Clavell, director of procurement and placement, emphasized the mission behind the effort.

“We’re saving two lives—helping both the warrior and the dog,” Clavell said. “This event helps us promote that healing process while finding forever homes for these amazing dogs.”

Within the first hour, 10 dogs had already been adopted, with the goal of placing 50-plus dogs by the end of the day. Even for those who couldn’t adopt on the spot, the event served as a reminder of the many shelter animals still in need of loving homes.

K9s For Warriors continues its mission beyond this event, working with local shelters to find both service dog candidates and pets for adoption.
