JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said it is investigating the death of a child with a disability who was found “unresponsive” in a pond shortly after being reported missing.
JSO said that around 2 p.m., officers were called to Dennard Avenue about a “missing special-needs child.”

JSO did not specify the child’s condition.
“In a very short time, the child was located in a nearby retention pond, unresponsive,” the agency said. “The Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department (JFRD) responded and tragically, they were unable to revive the child.”
The investigation remains ongoing and JSO is waiting to classify the incident, but said it “appears this is a tragic accident.”
