JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – JEA customers' utility bills will be higher than they might expect or have budgeted for because of the cold weather.
“They’ve been using more energy to heat their homes, and we know that we’ve seen a near-record level of energy consumption in Jacksonville,” said JEA spokesperson Karen McAllister.

Thankfully, JEA is offering solutions to help you if you’re having trouble with those higher bills.
Here are some of their options:
- Payment extensions give you extra time to pay. This is a short-term solution that allows you to take an extra 10 to 15 days after your due date.
- Payment arrangements allow you to pay your bill over time. This is a long-term option where you make monthly payments.
- For those going through more difficult situations, you can call United Way at 211 to connect with nonprofits that offer financial assistance to families that qualify.
- MyBudget is a levelized billing program that averages your past usage so your bill is about the same every month.
- You can even pay someone else’s bill, by either making a payment on a person’s behalf through the Guest Pay feature or making a donation to JEA’s Neighbor to Neighbor program.
